When gunfire broke out at an apartment complex in Wichita Falls, Texas, one family’s protector didn’t hesitate.
She stepped in between danger and the people she loved, and she paid for it with two gunshot wounds to the face.
On April 20, 2026, Jessica Sinclair’s world changed in an instant when a man allegedly opened fire during an attack at the Brigadoon Apartments.
As the gunman turned his weapon toward Sinclair, her pit bull, Trinity, moved into protective mode. She was shot twice, with one bullet striking her between the eyes.
Somehow, Trinity survived. Injured and terrified, she ran and went missing for nearly 24 hours, while residents across the city searched every corner trying to bring her home.
She was finally spotted sitting alone beneath a tree along Kell Boulevard, and the moment Sinclair reached her, she dropped to the ground beside her dog.
“I crawled down on all fours and just plopped in the mud next to her and just looked at her, and she’s like, ‘Oh, there you are,'” Sinclair recalled.
Trinity was rushed to Simmons and Harlan Vet Clinic, where she is expected to make a full recovery.
Her story quickly spread through the community, with strangers who had never met her sharing her photo and rallying behind her recovery.
“The amount of people that read it, that shared it, that have loved that dog that they have never, ever met because of what she did,” Sinclair said. “It’s a big thing. Most humans can’t even do something like that.”
Trinity didn’t have a choice to make in that moment.
She simply chose her family, without hesitation, without thinking twice. And in doing so, she may have saved a life.
