A three-year-old boy named Jordan Dashwood died in a house fire in Melbourne, Australia, on Saturday night, alongside the family’s two beloved dogs, who stayed by his side until the end.
Family friend Jardine Jackson shared that Jordan “had so much innocent joy in him, and he absolutely adored his dogs, who stayed by his side and perished with him.”
Emergency crews battled the blaze for more than an hour before Jordan was found early Sunday morning.
His father, Jeremy Dashwood, 40, was rushed to the hospital with severe burns after reportedly trying to re-enter the burning home to save his son.
Another child in the home is believed to have escaped by jumping from a window, and a neighbor helped a mother and an 11-year-old boy get to safety.
Jordan’s grandmother, Tracie Long, described him as “a bubbly little boy who was happy all the time,” adding, “he was a bubble of energy.”
Just months earlier, in February, Jeremy had posted a birthday message celebrating his son turning three.
Fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of the blaze, and it is not being treated as suspicious.
The family has launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.
